December 18 Shop. Online or offline, where did you spend most of your mad money this year?
For better or worse, when I buy books (mostly from Amazon) and music (mostly from itunes) I don't think I'm making "mad money" purchases.
That designation I reserve for little somethings that call to me, promising a moment of pleasure or comfort. They are unusual, sometimes impulsive, and their potential impracticality is part of their mad appeal.
My favorite 2009 all-purpose place for mad-money spending on handmade things has been Etsy.com, especially Moondog Treasures, Heatherly Designs, and my friend Michelle Eason.
